Jie-Song Zhang was born in Beijing, China, in the Year of the Monkey. As an international artistic director, he curated the Chinese contemporary art exhibition series Red Blood of the Dragon's Psyche in 2007, featuring the work of 13 Chinese contemporary artists, and showing in New York and Europe.In 2007, he also worked as an agent in the West for Chinese Masterpieces: Legends of Chinese Painting, a book featuring the most comprehensive collection of Chinese traditional Mei Shu painting ever compiled. Jie-Song was also a conceptual designer for Lagos Photo (2010), the first ever international photography festival/organization in Nigeria, on behalf of the African Artists' Foundation.
As as a musician, Jie-Song plays electric violin and is a vocalist for the avant-garde Hip-Hop group, the Stone Forest Ensemble, based in New York City. In 2003, he placed 2nd in the infamous Amateur Night competition at the Legendary Apollo Theater, and followed up with a nationally televised performance on NBC for Showtime at the Apollo. In 2010, Jie-Song was invited by the USA Pavilion to represent American culture to the world at the 2010 World Expo, in Shanghai, for which he created the Emerging Face of a Nationless World project. The project has since evolved into a global campaign to connect communities and organizations, worldwide. Jie-Song is also a blogger and multi-media contributor for National Geographic Music, who will soon feature his work covering the current underground Hip-Hop movement in China.
As an educator, Jie-Song has taught Creative Writing, Music Theory, Violin, Math, and Sciences, for various schools and programs throughout New York City, primarily in socio-economically challenged, ethnic communities.
Jie-Song recently founded the not-for-profit company, Stone Forest New York, dedicated to the creation of international cultural exchange projects. SFNY received its 501(c)3 status in 2010, and is the umbrella organization under which the Nationless World campaign operates.
